My name is Shelby and I am a certified Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTA). I am based in the Upstate of South Carolina.

In November of 2018, I woke up one morning getting ready for work feeling under the weather, which wasn’t a big deal for me at the time because I had just got done with my second Spartan Race. So I expected to have some body aches and move slower than normal. Not realizing what exactly my body was going through, I let it ride for a couple of months. My symptoms worsened and I felt I was losing a battle to feel myself well again. I decided to seek out a natural/holistic doctor instead of a Western medicine doctor. I wanted my symptoms to be evaluated in a holistic view and not have medications prescribed to mask my condition. At the age of 27, I had already become suspicious of Western medicine practice of addressing symptoms and not finding the root cause of illnesses.

I spent four hours with a Naturopathic doctor running every test she could. The results came back. “You have Lyme disease, my dear.” she said. At this time I had only heard about dogs getting Lyme disease, but did not know much about humans contracting Lyme. She also found parasites as well as other co-infections of Lyme. I started her Lyme protocol right away which was a homeopathic treatment. Her Lyme protocol was a good start, and this was the beginning of my education on the complexity of treating Lyme, coinfections, heavy metal toxicity, as well as Breast Implant Illness.

From that start, I have worked with a number of good doctors learning something from each of them. I have travelled far: from Germany to Los Angeles, Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, and of course South Carolina. Each clinic provided an opportunity to learn something new about fighting the disease. In 2019, while still very sick, I decided to further my education on nutrition and I started a 10 month program to become an Nutritional Therapy Practitioner.

My pain, my suffering, my confusion of being sick so long is one of the greatest challenges of my life. It affected me not only physically, but also socially, emotionally and spiritually. I felt cut off socially from friends and family for a while. At times I felt exhausted and overwhelmed at trying to figure out the best direction to go. This life challenge has led me to wanting to help others with chronic illnesses and health challenges.
